The Grace of God
What is the Grace of God? The Grace of God is God’s unearned, unmerited and undeserved favour toward you simply because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross. Simply put, the Grace of God is God blessing, healing and delivering you because of His Son Jesus Christ.
Because the Grace of God is based on Jesus’ work and not yours, the only way to enjoy this Grace is to believe in the finished work of Jesus the Christ and the only way to fall from this grace is by believing that you can earn, merit and deserve it through your obedience and good works.
For example, you fall from grace when you say, “God has to answer my prayer because I have prayed long enough or because I just ended a long fast.” You also fall from grace when you think that because you are serving in church or you have kicked out a bad habit, God is pleased with you and He has to bless you. There are people who are very faithful in service to God but are still broke and sickly because trusting in your strength changes nothing.
When you think that it is by your efforts and obedience that you receive God’s blessings, you are no different from the Pharisees. They believed that their law-keeping justified them and ensured that God would bless them. But the truth is that when you believe like them, “you have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace”. This means that you have been alienated from Christ, who is your salvation, Redeemer, healer and provider. Literally, Christ has become of no effect to you!
People to whom Christ is of effect receive from Him the miracle and blessing they need. When He is of effect to you, He becomes your healer and you are healed even before you know it. He gives you supernatural wisdom because He becomes your wisdom and He gives you good success in all that you do.
I have come across people who spend so much time fasting and praying and are still poor and going through a whole lot of problems. This is because they think it is their prayer and fasting that guarantees them answers from God. Your obedience and faithfulness, although good does not guarantee you good success.
Beloved, for Christ to always be of effect to you and to never nullify the Grace of God operating in your life, just remember and believe that it is because of Christ and His finished work—His blood, His stripes, His death, His obedience—that you are justified, healed and blessed! Don’t put so much trust in yourself but put all your trust in Jesus and the Grace of God will continually flow in your life.
