The Power Of Words

Words

Most people are used to saying things like “I am dying for this program” or “I am afraid it is going to rain today”. Only a few people would probably say “I am living for this program” or “I am confident it is going to rain today”. We are quick to mention death when things go wrong. We are quick to cry and be discouraged at any misfortune. When we hear of someone being sick, we say “It doesn’t look good. Let stand in faith and pray for him/her”. We discount our faith at the very mention of wrong with our words.

Many of us are ignorant of the power of words. Yet, the truth is that every word we speak has the power to either build or destroy hopes and dreams, restore or cause loss, heal or break the spirit, bring delight or despair, or even bless or curse. Why? Because God’s Word says that death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21). So instead of lining your words up with the negative circumstances you see around you, start lining your words up with God’s Word and release the power of His Word to work for you.

For example, instead of looking at your pocket and saying “I am broke”, say, “I am blessed because Jesus took away my poverty and gave me His riches in its place”. Instead of speaking sickness and death, say, “I will live and not die. Jesus died young for me so that I can live long for Him. Evil cannot befall the righteous because God’s Word says I am the righteousness of God in Christ. Darkness and gloom, poverty and sickness, defeat and depression, will not be in my life”.

Note that speaking these words in your life is not mere talk. Just talking does not mean anything until you believe what you say. Until your faith is in parallel with your confession, you are just speaking in vain. But faith is built within as you continue to speak God’s Word over your life. The power of words cannot be over emphasised. I am writing to tell you that “you shall have whatever you say”.

God wants you to have a life filled with good days and an abundance of every good thing. He wants you to have good days everyday and not just some days. So say, “In the name of Jesus, I command blessings, favour, health, provision, protection, dominion and power to fill my life!”
