Why Fight The Devil
And having spoiled (disarmed) principalities and powers, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross (Colossians 2:15).
There are two extremes that people believe about the devil. The first group are those who ignore satan, considering evil to be an impersonal force or the absence of good. The second group are those who are obsessed with the power of satan, attributing every problem to attacks of satan and living in fear of him. Neither of these views holds any water because they are not supported by the scriptures. Satan may have power but is not all-powerful nor is he present everywhere. As a matter of fact he is not all knowing and cannot read your thoughts. The thought of him being around you all time wanting you to fall so he can destroy you is not scriptural.
Satan after knowing who Jesus was tried all he could to let him bypass the way to fulfilling His Father’s will. In his ignorance of not knowing what God was up to (seeing the way Jesus was bringing freedom to most people), he thought killing Jesus was what was going to bring everything to an end. But by killing Him on the cross, he fulfilled the Father’s will as Jesus carried all our sins and sealed satan’s defeat for life. Jesus triumphed over death through His resurrection and defeated satan and his cohorts.
Through His resurrection, Jesus has given us power over satan and all his schemes. Now instead of depending on your strength and on what you have done right or wrong, you can now depend on His unfailing love and the finished work of Christ. If you do not rely on Christ’s victory over satan and try to confront satan in your own power, he is indeed dangerous to you. But satan has no more power over us than what we choose to give him. When we resist the devil by the authority Christ has given us, we will be victorious in all we do.
No one has been instructed to fight the devil because he has already been defeated. Why fight the devil then? Most people pray like that out of ignorance. There are two prayers that God will never answer. God will never answer to what He has already done and to what he has asked you to do. He wants you to rely on the victory He has given you and to walk in total dominion and authority over the devil and all his plans. Just rest on the victory of Christ and you will enjoy God’s best for your life all the way through.
