How To Deal With Offences
When it comes to offences everyone has been a victim before. A story is told about a little girl who offended her aunt by not doing according to her word when sent. This aunt decided to punish the girl severely and her punishment was to make her sit in boiling water. The girl was so severely wounded that the matter went to the police (cutting the story short). I am sure you are seeing this aunt as a very wicked woman; that is true, but what have you also done when you were offended. I have therefore decided to write on this article I have titled “How to deal with offences”. (Inspiration from Pastor Alfred Kuffour)
Everyone reacts differently when offended and it mostly depends on the degree of anger you have as a result. Often what creates problems for us is not what people say or do against us but how we react when offended. There are many broken homes because of hurt, many harbouring bitterness against the opposite sex because they are hurt, many have quit their God given roles in their churches because they are offended and many sons have rebelled against authority to their own destruction because they are offended. So how do we deal with offences in a Godly way?
First and foremost we have to remember what Jesus did on the cross. Instead of calling down fire He prayed for those who hurt Him (Luke 23:34). If Jesus is your standard then you will follow His footsteps. Note that if your prayer does not change them, it will eventually change you. Either ways you win.
Learn to forgive even if it is the most difficult thing you can ever do (Matthew 18:21). The interesting thing about forgiveness is it releases the burden off you so you don’t have a feeling of resentment when you meet the one who has wronged you. To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you and no one else.
Learn to pay evil with good (Matthew 6:44). The worst thing you could ever do is to pay evil with evil. Anyone who wrongs you would be expecting something bad in return anyway but when you pay with good you touch their conscience to change. Love people at all cost even if it means losing your own pride. What makes me love God even more is how He sent His only Son to pay a penalty I deserved when I didn’t even know Him. He could have condemned me and He would have been right but He decided to pay me with good and that has made me forever indebted to His loving Grace.
My beloved have you ever wondered about how to deal with offences in your life? You can do same as discussed above if you remain in His loving grace and let His Spirit set the pace for your life. His Grace is forever sufficient for you.
