Your Righteousness Is Everlasting
Do you really believe that your righteousness is everlasting? On Sunday we hear a wonderful sermon that says that you are the righteousness of God in Christ. On Monday, we still keep up the confession, but come Wednesday or Thursday, we begin to confess our sins. This is what happens to many of us again and again. We believe we are righteous on Sundays and then become unrighteous after a few days.
Is this true? Can our righteousness be affected because of some evil thought or sin? No, our righteousness is an “everlasting righteousness”. Jesus has obtained “eternal redemption” for us (Hebrews 9:12). You may be saying to yourself, “I just sinned so how can I still be righteous?” You might have sinned but what you do or do not do does not make you righteous or unrighteous. It is what Christ did on Calvary. The Bible says in Romans 5:19 that, “For as by one man’s (Adam) disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous”. It is therefore the obedience of one Man – Jesus the Christ – and not your obedience, that has made you righteous!
God wants you to stop looking at yourself. He wants you to set your eyes on the cross and be conscious of your righteousness in Christ Jesus. Don’t just know it in your head but speak it to yourself. Say “I am the righteousness of God in Christ” even when you have done something wrong.
You don’t need a revelation of how sinful you were or are. You knew it when you became born again and you know it when you sin. The devil reminds you of your sins so you feel guilty and become ineffective. What you need is a revelation of how forever righteous you are in God’s eyes, especially when you sin.
And when you are conscious of this gift of everlasting righteousness, you will reign in life (Romans 5:17). That is what ushers you into the authentic Christian life. You will reign over sin, sickness, lack, bad habits and everything that holds you back from having a victorious life in Christ.
Many believers have been weakened because the devil has succeeded in making them look at themselves instead of looking at the finished work of Jesus the Christ. Looking at yourself will only bring misery and depression but looking at Jesus brings hope. So set your gaze on Jesus knowing that your righteousness is everlasting.
