The Character Of Angels
Angels are spirit beings although they can sometimes be seen with the naked eyes. For information on who angels are click here. This article seeks to explain the character of Angels. This information is just a summary of all that these scriptures have to offer so to get the full information please do well to read the scriptures on each point stated below.
- Their Worship (Psalm 103:20; Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 29:1,2; Matthew 22:30; Luke 2:13; Luke 2:13; Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 4:8; 5:11)
Elect and Holy angels never accept worship of man, though fallen angels seek to be worshipped. Elect angles direct all worship to God and are symbolic of the “church in heaven” (Hebrews 12:22-24). They are also worshippers.
- Their obedience (Psalm 102:20-21; Matthew 6:10; 26:53; 1 Peter 3:22; Jude 6).
The obedience of the elect angels is immediate and unquestionably perfect. They are quick to respond to their call. However, fallen angels disobeyed God’s will and word.
- Their Wisdom (2 Samuel 14:17; 19:27; Matthew 24:36; Ephesians 3:9-10)
Angels are wise, but not all-wise (the same applies to the devil). Only God is all-wise. Their wisdom has increased over the ages of time though, as they have beheld the dealings of an all-wise God.
- Their Knowledge (Mark 13:32; 1 Peter 1:12)
Their knowledge, like their wisdom, has increased through the ages also. However, though having wisdom and knowledge, they are not omniscient like God.
- Their Meekness (2 Peter 2:11; Jude 9)
Angels bear in their character the meekness of God. Fallen angels rose up in pride and are still proud today. Elect angels have meekness and humility.
- Their Strength (2 Kings 19:35; 2 Kings 6:17; Psalm 103:20; Matthew 28:2; Acts 5:19; 2 Peter 22:11; Revelation 18:1,21; 2 Thessalonians 1:7)
These scriptures give examples of the strength and power of angels. One angel slew 185,000 Assyrians in one night when delivering King Hezekiah from danger. Angels, however mighty, are not almighty. They are not omnipotent.
- Their Holiness (Mark 8:38; Revelation 14:10)
Angels possess the attribute of derived holiness. The elect angels, after their probationary period and their victory over Lucifer’s appeal to self-will, now have sinless perfection from which it is impossible to fall.
- Their Patience (Numbers 22:22-35; Matthew 19:10)
The angels have the quality of patience, as they wait before God, and do His bidding.
- Their Modesty (1 Corinthians 13:1)
Angels are reserved and decent in their behaviour before God and those that are heirs of salvation.
- Their Ability (1 Corinthians 13:1)
Angels, when sent by God to various persons on earth can speak the languages needed to communicate God’s message. They can speak the tongues of men or of angels. Their linguistic ability is seen here. They have the ability to comprehend and speak all languages.
- Their Joy (Job 38:7; Luke 15:10; 1 Corinthians 4:9)
Angels rejoiced at the creation of the earth. They also rejoice over God’s new creation, repentant sinners.
- Their Clothing (Revelation 15:1-8)
Angels are generally spoken of as being clothed in white raiment, or raiment that is bright as light. There is no darkness in them. They are clear and transparent before a holy God.
