Is The Holy Spirit Optional?
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity but equal to the Father and the Son. He is the chief commander of the Church today. The Father and the Son Jesus Christ are in heaven today but the Holy Spirit is present with us and in us. Today, I want to talk about something that is very important to us as believers. There are people who believe that ones you become born again you have the Holy Spirit, and there are others who believe you need to ask for Him to come into your heart. Some believe He is optional and only important if you need Him. Others believe otherwise. So is the Holy Spirit optional for Christians? Is the Holy Spirit Optional for the Church?
A person is said to be indispensable when you cannot do anything without him. On the other hand when we say something or someone is optional it means that you can do without it or them respectively. Without the Holy Spirit, you cannot go far in this Christian journey.
He was given to teach and to remind us of Christ’s teachings. John 14:26 states that “But he the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” He gives you supernatural retentive memory and comprehension beyond the ordinary.
He was given to empower us for various assignments and to guide us into all truth. The Bible says in John 16:13 that “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
Without Him we can do nothing. In fact, without Him this Christian race will be impossible and will be a source of frustration. This indispensability was further established even in the power behind our Lord Jesus Christ’s exploits all through His ministry on earth. With Him, we can access the following – truth, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, victory without a fight, secrets of God’s plans and the plans of the enemies, power to live a sanctified and consecrated life, grace to pray through.
That is why it is very important to have fellowship with Him. Fellowship here is the bond of common purpose and devotion that binds Christians together to the Trinity in Council. Fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit is about seeking to know Him; by developing intimacy with Him and seeking the favour of this higher Authority.
As a Christian, this fellowship is not optional but mandatory especially if you want to be relevant in the Kingdom of God. Your fellowship can be sustained or lost depending on what you do. That is why you have to value your fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
I pray that you thirst more and more for this fellowship because that is what will bring out the “real you” that is hidden in you.
