Walking In The Perfect Will Of God
The Bible says in Romans 12:2 that “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. This scripture breaks down the will of God into three parts: the good will, the acceptable will and the perfect will of God. One sign of spiritual maturity for a child of God is the ability to discern and walk in God’s perfect will.
The good will is the general will of God as revealed in the Word of God. This is something that is generally good for God and for people. An example is preaching the Gospel as espoused by the scriptures. Any one of us can go and preach the Gospel because that is the great commission God has given unto us.
The acceptable will is the well pleasing will of God. It is that which the Lord accepts and is well pleasing to Him. An example is when David wanted to build a temple for God. That was pleasing to God coming from a pure heart but God disallowed it and asked that his son, Solomon, build it instead. If David had gone ahead to build the temple without God guiding him into His perfect will, he would have been functioning in God’s acceptable will which is not God’s best. The best place to function is to be in His perfect will. This will mostly pertains to people in different positions; mostly leadership positions.
There are also specific times that God leads you by the hand and directs you as to what to do. An example can be seen when Paul wanted to go and preach in Asia. The Bible says that the Spirit of God did not permit them to do so although that is the good will of God that everyone be saved (Acts 16:6-7). God simply had a different plan for him which was His perfect will.
As a Christian, if you desire to live to your highest potentials and purpose in God, and experience total fulfillment in your walk with God, strive to be in God’s perfect will. This is a sign of spiritual maturity. You have to move from what is good and acceptable to the perfect purpose of God for you at anytime, even when it does not seem convenient in your eyes. You can then be guaranteed God’s utmost blessings for your life.
