Is Christianity A Religion
It is interesting to note how many religions we have in our world today. Ask people about the major religions of the world and the first one many would probably mention would be Christianity followed by Islam. But there is nothing in the Bible that suggests Christianity is a religion or that Jesus was a leader of a certain religion called Christianity. Many people compare Jesus with Mohammed and other religious leaders but Jesus was not and cannot be a religious leader. The question we are asking ourselves is “Is Christianity a religion”? Though many Christians have even helped propagate the notion that Christianity is the world’s greatest and most respected religion, the truth is Christianity is actually not a religion.
Religion is man’s work towards God, but Christianity is God’s work in man. Look at the various religions and all you will note is people following a set of rules and trying to do good to please a God they believe in. Christianity is a call to oneness with Divinity where God works through as to fulfil His purpose in our life. It is absurd to tell people who believe in religion that God can possibly dwell in them because they see God as a fearful God who is far away with a whip ready to whip people who falter.
God has chosen to live (abide) in the hearts of man. This is Christianity! It is the life of God lived through mankind. It is the unveiling of the Living Word in a human life. Until this revelation gets to your spirit, all you will have will be a mere religion. That is why there are still some Christians that are frustrated. The reason why we go to church, pray, preach the gospel and work miracles as Christians is not because we have received a religion, but because we have received the very nature of God – His life.
When you become born again, you become a partaker of God’s divine nature, having been imparted with His life. This is what it means to be a Christian. Is Christianity a religion? It is obvious now that it is not. That is why we live in the miraculous; that is why to be a Christian is such an exciting life. It is a life of not trying to do something but rather allowing God to do all that He wants through us. Avail yourself and God will use you for greater things.
