Why Do I Sin

Sin as espoused by the Bible has to do with disobedience to the Word of God. There are a lot of people who are of the view that man cannot be holy and must sin because he is flesh. There are others who think that one cannot sin when they become born again. These two sides are the two extremes that are partially true. The question I would ask those with the first view is why would God ask man to be holy because He is holy when He knew very well that they couldn’t? (1 Peter 1:15-16) God never asks anyone to do more than they can or else He is not a just God. The question for those with the second view is why would John write in his epistle that if we sin we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous? (1 John 2:1). Think about these and they will birth a new thought in you.

Yes it is possible for man to be holy when they are in Him and Yes a born again Christian can sin. Our holiness is in Him and in Him alone. We can live without sin if we remain entirely in Him. In any case what man call sin is different from what God call sin in most cases. That is why God deals with people differently when it comes to the issue of sin.

Now to our topic for today “why do I sin”, I will be tackling some very important truth. I have lived under certain sins for years just because I didn’t know this profound truth that I am about to share with you. “Why do I sin” is a question I think you may be asking yourself too.

When you were not born again, you never blinked or for once think certain things you were doing was wrong. You could probably fornicate with several ladies if you are a guy or men if you are a lady and wrote them in your diary because you thought you were the “man” or “woman” or probably you thought you were scoring points. But now you feel bad, now you feel very terrible doing the same wrongs you used to do freely and easily. This is what shows that you are now born again. The Spirit of God begins to bear witness with your spirit that you are now a child of God (Romans 8:16). Your conscience is now revived and you now hear your spirit either faintly or clearly. Feeling is the voice of your body, reasoning is the voice of your soul, and conscience is the voice of your spirit. This is a different topic for another day.

Once your spirit has been revived you know right from wrong, sin from holiness. You have been told about tons of reasons why you do wrong (why you sin) which may be good but I will be dwelling on a reason which although simple and profound many take it for granted.
