Love Memory Verses (Part 3)
1 After this Absalom the son of David had a lovely sister, whose name was Tamar, and Amnon the son of David loved her. 2 Amnon was so distressed over his sister Tamar that he became sick; for she was a virgin. And it was improper for Amnon to do anything to her. 3 But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man. 4 And He said to him, “Why are you, the king’s son, becoming thinner day after day? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”

This is a typical story of what people call love today. Many people have replaced love with lust and think once they lust for someone they are in love. Many also think having sex with someone defines how much they love each other. All these are not new in our day. They existed since the fall of man. Man’s corrupted nature craves to satisfy the flesh. This was what Amnon was seeking to gratify: the flesh. The only reason for his love for Tamar was because He wanted to have sex with her. He didn’t love her but rather lusted for her because love is not selfish. This explains why he resented her after having his way with her. Sex is very important in marriage but has nothing to do with one’s love for the other.
When God’s love floods your heart, you would always wish the best for others because God’s love always seeks an opportunity to give. I will encourage you not to only love in word but in action (deeds) as well. There are a lot of people who say “I love you” but no nothing about love. No one can love apart from God therefore to love you must be in Him.
