1 But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites – 2 from the nations of whom the Lord had said to the children of Israel, “You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love.

Love although precious can be disastrous when concentrated on something else apart from God. God in His own wisdom has placed a craving in man that will always long for Him. The absence of this leads to a lot of insecurity and waste of time and life. This is why many are searching for things Peace in all the wrong places. The only place to find peace, love and rest is in God. Solomon loved many other things apart from God and that was what led to his downfall. To be successful or being prosperous is not just about the material things one has but also the peace that comes with it and only God can grant this peace. That is why some people spend fortunes on building but cannot sleep in them because they are afraid of thieves.
9 So the Lord became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the Lord God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, 10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep what the Lord had commanded

The outcome of our love for other things apart from God is destruction. In Solomon’s case it was the love for women, but in your case it may be for other things like money, television or even sleep: anything that takes your love away from God. Be vigilant and search your heart and concentrate your love on Him (God alone). At first many may think you are insane or illogical but this is what will birth a new strength and a new life of Glory for you and the generation yet unborn.
