Peace In The Storm

Peace

A story is told by William Gilbert of how Dante, wandering one day over the mountains of Lunigiana, eventually drew near to a lone, secluded monastery. It was at a time when his mind was wracked with internal conflict and was seeking refuge from the strife. So he loudly knocked at the monastery gate. It was opened by a monk, who in a single glance at the sad, pale face, read its pathetic message of misery and sorrow. “What do you seek here?” he said. With a gesture of despair, the poet replied, “Peace.” It was the same old craving followed by the same old search. But neither the solitary places, nor the anchorite’s cell ever brought true peace to the afflicted heart.

Note that peace comes not from without but from within. We can have it in distressing pain or in buoyant health; in poverty or in wealth. The secret of it is in comradeship with Christ. You can have peace in the storm, if you have Christ. He is the shelter from the tempest, the soul’s haven of rest. You can enjoy the “peace which passeth all understanding” by learning to value His friendship. He is the only secret! Many are looking for peace at many different places but forget to seek from the only place where there is true peace.

The Bible recalls in Luke 8:22-25 that as Jesus and His disciples were sailing to the other side of the lake, there was a great storm which was calmed by Jesus’ Word. The reason why these disciples survived was not because of their skill in fishing. If it was for their skill, they would have drowned because they knew this was one of the deadly waves. But they survived because Jesus was in the boat with them. He is the source of true peace both on earth and the world to come. He assures us of eternal peace.

My beloved are you going through any problem that is depriving you of rest? The best person to handle them is Jesus Christ. He wants you to cast all your burdens upon Him because He loves and cares for you. He won’t even sweat in trying to solve your problems so will you put them before Him now? Take the chance today and you will never regret you did.
