God Gives And Not Take
There are some Christians who still believe that God gives and also takes away. Even at funerals, we sometimes hear some ministers say, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” That was the attitude Job displayed when he received the news that he had lost his property and children. He thought God was the source of his problems but what he didn’t know was that it was actually Satan who had come against him. His confession was, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21). Looking at this statement, it makes logical sense but in reality it reveals an erroneous view of our heavenly Father and shows blatant ignorance.
As children of God we have to note that the Father’s will for us is always of good and not of evil. He is a giver and not a taker. Jesus said, “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). It is the devil who is the thief. He comes to steal, kill and destroy. But Jesus came to give us life more abundantly (John 10:10). Therefore don’t attribute death, destruction, and lack to God because it is not a part of Him.
Did you know that Jesus met every need and healed every sickness brought before Him? He was a life giver and a healer. Never once did He take anything away anything from the people who came to Him. And the Bible says that whoever has seen Jesus has seen the Father (John 14:9).
My beloved, your heavenly Father wants you to know today that He is the one who gives you all good things. And if He has already given us heaven’s best—Jesus, “how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things”?
