Should We Ask For Revival

united1

In Psalm 85:6 the psalmist cried out to the Lord “will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” Like David, some of the great Prophets of the Old Testament usually would look up to God to revive them in times of discouragement or despair. Should we ask for revival as the people of old did? When it comes to critical issues like this we have to look for clarification from the New Testament and not the Old. A new Will of the deceased is weightier than an old one, same with the Old and New Testament.

Today in the New Testament, we don’t pray or cry to God for revival; we are the revival and we need to stir it up from within. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:6 that “.. stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination] (AMP). So it is no use looking up to heaven for God to send down revival, for the Lord of revival –the Holy Spirit– lives in the quarters of your heart.

Moreover anytime we pray and there is no revival we would say God didn’t bring the revival, blaming God. Does God love all mankind? Yes. So why do you think you love men more than God? That is what praying to God for revival is in the New Testament. There are a lot of things that we should pray for. They are things that God has already done and things that God has asked us to do. God has done all that He should for all of mankind to be saved but everyone has a will to either accept or reject Him.

So should we ask for revival? Acts 1:8 says “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you….” The Apostle Paul realized this great blessing and advantage of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer when he said “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself…” (1 Corinthians 14:4). When you speak in other tongues, you charge up, build up, refresh and revive yourself. You stir up the power of God that is resident in your spirit as you pray in other tongues. There is an automatic conversion of that latent power of the Holy Spirit in you to an active, lively and dynamic force. This is what you need for service.

God is not to move in any special way or is not to blame for any lack of revival. We are to prepare ourselves because we are the revival and we are the change agents in our business, town, country and the world. Without us there cannot be any revival. Don’t go about asking for revival and doing nothing because God is waiting on you to partner with Him to take on the earth.
