About Alcoholism

Alcoholism has been an age-old addiction plaguing (destroying) mankind with far reaching consequences for families and generations – it destroys lives and disintegrates society. It is tearing at the national moral fabric making morality a thing of the past.

Don’t get caught up

First of all, you must know that alcoholism is a trap. There is nothing like social drinking or just taking a little. One who condones just taking a little is giving room for Satan to operate. The moderate drinker is naive if he does not recognize the risk of eventually becoming addicted. No alcoholic ever intended to become an alcoholic when he/she took the first drink and no individual who persistently refuses to take the first drink could ever become an alcoholic.

Alcohol brings a lot of self inflicted injury, shame and other mishaps. There is a physical and emotional impact. There is also health and social consequences via intoxication. Not only do you have chronic diseases but this can also lead to death.

The standard for God’s people is no less in the New Testament than in the Old Testament. Warnings about the abuses and excesses of alcohol become in the New Testament a call to holy living through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We need to cleanse them from all profane habits, including alcohol. So the Quest for an antidote first has to do with God’s call to Holiness.

Even in small amounts alcohol begins its subtle work of destruction, taking its toll on mental and physical reactions. God knew this fact very well when He gave instructions that priests and kings should refrain from any use of alcohol. The Old Testament instruction to the Levites (priests) applies today (Leviticus 10:8-11). Today, all Christians have been made priests to God (1 Peter 2:9). As such we should always give our best and be at our best in His service. The standard of abstinence should be the standard of every Christian today.

The Way Out

To be free from alcoholism, you have to draw a line on the use of alcohol. If you draw the line of total abstinence, you will save a multitude of young and old from the danger of alcoholism. The only true person who can break the addiction of alcohol is the Holy Spirit. He will help you if you let Him (call unto Him now and He will hear you for God’s love is freely available). And if you are not alcoholic, it is safe to abstain.
