Why You Must Forgive
A story is told of a lady who died of cancer because she would not forgive her husband who was living wild and would not go to church. She had the cancer because she would not stop worrying over her husband and holding grudges against him. Now, she died of cancer because she just didn’t let the cancer go. The cancer was the unforgiveness that she harboured in her heart over the years. Unforgiveness is the cause of many of the medical conditions that are affecting people in the world today. Walking in love brings good health but unforgiveness brings a lot of ill health.
Forgiveness is a marvellous tool for your own happiness. When you fail to forgive someone who has offended you, it affects your own happiness. Sometimes seeing the person may even change your good mood to a bad one. You don’t forgive others just to convince yourself that you did right and they were so wrong but rather it is something you do for your own happiness. It is in your own interest to bear no grudge or be bitter against anyone. One who easily forgives is always in a good mood and does not go to bed hurt thinking about what was done him or her.
I know that sometimes people’s actions could be so terrible but holding on to pain and grudge of such experiences can only wound your emotions further and cause a lot of damage to your spiritual life. One who is living in unforgiveness would find it difficult receiving from God. For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you (Matthew 6:14).
Walking in forgiveness also helps you to live in harmony with other people. Always resenting people when they do you wrong would only mud or destroy the relationship that already exists. When someone does anything wrong, don’t even wait for them to apologise. Let the love of God in your heart be your inspiration for forgiving their faults and not apology from them. Maintain a forgiving heart all the time and you will always live a happy and excited life and continually enjoy the pleasantness in other people.
