Unconditional Blessings

History of blessings

In the Old Testament, God’s blessing for the children of Israel was based on the condition of their obedience to the law. They only enjoyed the benefits of the first covenant by obeying the law. The Bible affirms this in Exodus 19:5-6 which says that “now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” God had desired that the children of Israel walk as kings and priests before Him. However, their obedience was the prerequisite for such blessings to take effect in their lives.

However, they broke His laws because of their disobedience and could not enjoy the benefits of those blessings. But this is a whole new situation in the New Testament. We have been made partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the Kingdom of light. We have been born into this unconditional blessings and benefits of the Kingdom-life reserved for all God’s children. All this happened when you were born again; you were born with an inheritance. All these blessings are now a gift. You don’t have to try to obey the law for God to bless you because you were already born blessed. If your father owned a great estate, you don’t need to obey him first before you inherit all that he has. It is yours regardless.

Also, you are the fruit of Christ’s obedience to the Father. “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous” (Romans 5:18-19). Can you now see why you don’t have to try to first obey to receive God’s unconditional blessings in your life? Someone has already obeyed God on your behalf, and His Name is Jesus.

Conclusion

Nowhere in the New Testament are we told to obey the law. Rather we are called the obedient children. We are described in scripture as having obeyed God’s Word of truth from the heart (Romans 6:17). Therefore our blessings and inheritance in Christ aren’t preconditioned on obedience but rather our birthright. It is unconditional blessings. Hallelujah!
