Eternal Life

Eternal life is a topic most talked about in our churches of today but the least understood. This is because even the preachers don’t understand it much either. Many have been taught that it is life after death and that for believers we will live forever. Yes that maybe true but that is just a partial truth. If it was living forever then even the unbeliever will also live forever. The only difference is that they will spend their eternity in hell and Christians will spend theirs in heaven. This would have been completely true relying on semantics but to really understand the true meaning of eternal life we have to turn to the Bible.

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent (John 17:3). This means that there is no eternal life apart from Christ because through Him you will know God. I find it amazing that people from these other religions would say they know God and deny His Son. Without the Son it is impossible to know the Father.

Eternal life is Jesus in your heart (spirit). This means that when Jesus enters your life, He will give you a new life (the God kind of life) and you will live eternally with Him in Heaven. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life (1 John 5:12). This kind of life is a life of victory and good success where there is nothing like failure.

What then happens when you sin after receiving Christ into your life? You never lose your salvation. Assuming your child disobeyed you with something will you ask him/her to leave forever? Of course not! You won’t because you love him/her. All you will do is to correct them. My question to you now is do you think God loves you any less than you love your child? If you sin after you receive Christ, God will discipline you to train you to walk in the right ways. He will not take away your salvation because your salvation is eternal and eternal means forever.
