Meaning of been righteous
To be righteous means to be justified and made right in the sight of God. Many don’t understand the difference between righteousness and right living. Being born again, you’ve been made righteous by God, and that’s the only reason God would expect you to live right. God wouldn’t expect someone who isn’t righteous to live right. Religion teaches the opposite: that if you would live right, then God would make you righteous. Some say, “If you would just live right, then God will accept you”; that’s also inconsistent with the truth of God’s Word. As a matter of fact, righteousness by works or performance is from the pit of hell and not from Scripture.
If man could live right, it would not have been necessary for Jesus to come. Jesus’ coming was to make us righteous to live right. Righteousness gives birth to right living; meaning that a man can only live right when he is righteous. A dog barks because that is its nature. A cat cannot take its place by barking. No one becomes a sinner just because they have sinned but rather people sin because they are sinners. In the same vein, after being born again, righteousness is no longer something that you put to work. It’s the nature you were born with in Christ, which now gives you the ability to do right and live righteously to the glory of God.
The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ have made you righteous. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21). You have been declared righteous by faith. This is the Gospel: that an ungodly person can become righteous by having faith in that which was done by Jesus Christ for us on the Cross.
Conclusion
With the knowledge of this, don’t let anyone beat you down because you have done something wrong. Even if you sin, you are still righteous. Despite your feelings, be it good or bad, that has nothing to do with your righteousness in Christ. You are righteous so let it soak. Don’t wallow in condemnation and guilt. All such feelings are not true. You are born to reign so be righteousness conscious and you will reign in life.
