God’s Love
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). God’s love is very big and cannot be wholly understood, but understanding even a fraction of His love will blow your mind away. Note the word ‘so’ in the above scripture explains the intensity of His love. Thus He didn’t just love you but He ‘so’ loved you. His love moved Him to give what He cherished the most. Love is always evidenced by how much you give. How much here is not in just quantity but quality. Quality because someone may give 1 million dollars and another 100 dollars but the one who gives the 100 may love more as he has given all he has as compared to the other who has just given a fraction of the millions he has.
To understand His love we have to first know the definition of love as espoused by the Word of God. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10). I am not impressed at all when a man of God or believer expresses his/her love for God but I am greatly impressed when God’s love for us is been expressed. That is how much He loves you; by sending His Son – only Son.
On the night of the last supper there was Peter and John and the other disciples. I have singled out the two because of something peculiar about them. Peter typifies the Christian who boasts of his love for the Lord. When the Lord said one of the disciples will betray Him, Peter stood up and said that if all this (meaning the other disciples) forsake you, I will never forsake you (Jesus). On the other hand, John called himself about 5 times that He is the disciple that Jesus loved in His Gospel. What was he doing? He was practicing Jesus love for him. The more you practice the love of God, the more you will flow in the love of God. Now taking these two disciples, where were they when Jesus was crucified? Peter the one boasting of his love for the Lord denied Him and was nowhere to be found but John who boasted of Jesus’ love for him was found by the cross with His mother.
In the heart of every person there is a cry for love but people are looking for love in all the wrong places. It is not even found in the husband and wife relationship if they are not aware of how much God loves them.
God’s love is what breaks the power of sin in every believer’s life. It is what gives you a sure and strong foundation as a Christian. When the devil tries you and brings bad situations your way, it is the love of God that moves you to the place of peace. Even when you go wrong, it is the love of God that will lift you from that thought of condemnation. God loves you long before you were born so nothing you can ever do will change that.
God does not give preferential treatment to a selected few but people who walk in God’s love exercises their faith to enjoy God’s best for their lives. God did not create man to serve Him but to be an object of His love. Once you come to understand God’s love for you and the value He places on your life, your life will be transformed beyond comprehension. This is why it is important to dwell in His unfailing love.
