When you have a need or are faced with pressing situations, do you pray or do you plead? Do you begin your prayers with words like, “Please God, please, please! God, I beg You! I cannot accomplish this without You!” As genuine as this may be it is not the right way to pray. This is why I have titled this article “Prayers That Plead and Prayers That Proclaim”. We will be differentiating between these forms of prayers.

Prayers that plead and beg imply that our heavenly Father is not willing to do it. It seeks to say that God does not want to give good things to His Children. Yet, He is far more gracious and willing to give to you than you are willing to ask, think or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). He desires above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers (3 John 1:2).

Prayers that proclaim are prayers that speak of what God has already done in the Bible. Most of the things we ask for have already been provided by God. In fact, He met your need long before you realised the need. Long before you knew you needed a Saviour, He sent His Son to be your Saviour. God is a Good God! So when you beg Him for something, you are actually saying that He is reluctant to give and needs to be persuaded strongly before He moves. Yet, He is not like that. He is in fact the opposite in that He provides the solution even before the question arises.

Jesus knew the heart of the Father. When He saw the woman bound with a spirit of infirmity, He did not pray, “Oh Father! Look at your daughter. She has been suffering for 18 long years! Father please have mercy on her. Please, please heal her because You are all she has left!” No, when Jesus saw her, He immediately proclaimed, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity,” because He knew the heart of the Father. He knew that the Father wanted her delivered from her crippling condition.

When I am praying for people I don’t say, “Oh God, please bless your people. Please keep them and be forever gracious unto them”. Instead, I proclaim, “May the Lord bless you and keep you. May His face shine on you and be gracious to you. Walk in the peace of God!”

My beloved, when you pray, proclaim your healing, protection and provision because your Father’s heart overflows with love for you. Pleading and begging only gives the wrong impression of the Father. He loves you so much to hide anything good from you. Therefore proclaim what you want to see and He will establish and sanction it to come to pass!
